Cancun’s beaches are its main hallmark. Twenty-two kilometers of fine white sand, turquoise waters and lively beach bars to relax under a palapa, practice water sports, enjoy a romantic walk at sunset or savor a local dish beside the sea.
The coastline of Costa Mujeres has everything the traveler could want from the Mexican Caribbean: calm, shallow waters, such as those of Playa de Tortugas and Playa Caracol; wide sandy beaches overlooking the open sea, such as Chac Mool and Playa Delfines, or small and cozy coves, such as Las Perlas.
Playa Tortugas is one of the most famous beaches on Costa Mujeres and the favorite of Mexican tourists. Its calm waters and fine white sand offer a variety of family-friendly activities: from renting a hammock to enjoying a relaxed day at the beach, to diving in its coral reefs, playing volleyball or participating in the multiple events organized in the nearby premises. In addition, you can take a ferry from Playa de Tortugas to Isla Mujeres, another tourist attraction that you cannot miss if you visit Cancun.
Playa Delfines is known as the viewpoint of Cancun due to its panoramic views. This practically virgin beach is far from the hustle and bustle of the hotel area and is ideal for travelers looking for a more authentic experience surrounded by nature. Although inviting caution, its intense waves are ideal for lovers of surfing or jet ski rides. It’s also an obligatory stop if you want to capture your trip and get a photo next to the famous "Cancún" letters.
If you’re traveling with children, this beach is the safest one to enjoy multiple activities thanks to the gentle waves and shallow waters. It’s the perfect option for scuba diving, snorkeling or simply lying on the sand and letting yourself be carried away by the sound of the Caribbean Sea and the impressive views of the horizon .
This beach named after a pre-Columbian god is in what is known as the Party Zone, so you can get an idea of the great atmosphere that’s alive from morning to night. When the sea is calm, it’s perfect for enjoying a good swim and a relaxing day at the beach; but if you get there when there’s a swell, take the opportunity to practice water skiing or surfing on its turquoise blue waters. As evening falls, right across the street, you can enjoy the delicious menus and shows offered by Señor Frog’s for the whole family; or you can have a cocktail at one of the trendy nightclubs .
This popular beach is also known as Playa Gaviota Azul, and has outstandingly fine white sand, gentle turquoise blue waves and lively atmosphere. Located north of the hotel zone, near the Coco Bongo and Mandala night clubs, it’s probably the most cosmopolitan and dynamic sandy area of Costa Mujeres. Despite being one of the busiest beaches on the coast, the quality of its waves make it the favorite for surfers and water sports lovers.
Playa de Las Perlas is the most welcoming of all those found in the hotel area of Cancun, a small oasis of serenity facing the Caribbean Sea. The play park located at the entrance will delight the little ones, as will the wide variety of activities that can be enjoyed in its calm, crystal-clear waters, such as exploring the seabed with snorkel and goggles, diving among fish and coral reefs or enjoying the biodiversity of the area by taking a fun kayak ride.
